Entries Closing Soon for the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival Weekend

Friday 29 May 2015

The latest round-up of cars and drivers entering this year’s Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival reveals a tantalising glimpse of what lies in store for the weekend of 13/14 June - submit your entries to join the line-up now!
The two-day blazing event will feature Speed Trials, Driving Tests and a Concours across the Museum site and at neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World, giving a huge variety of motoring competition with the Test Hill Challenge and the Tin Snail Challenge by 2CV Adventures amongst the additional ‘off-track’ entertainment for visitors.

Entries are still available across all events, but will be closing this Monday 1 June so don't miss your chance to compete at the hallowed Brooklands venue and submit your entries now. With its wide array of classes catering for all manner of Edwardian, Vintage, Post-Vintage and Post-war machinery, the weekend is an undoubted highlight of the Historic motorsport calendar – don’t forget that you must enter for any two of the three competitive elements to qualify for the prestigious Double Twelve competition (CLICK HERE for more details on how to take part).

Saturday’s Speed Trials on the challenging and technical Mercedes-Benz World Circuit will boast the usual selection of Pre-war classes associated with the VSCC Speed events, catering for Edwardians, Vintage & PVT Racing and Sports-Cars, as well as a Post-war class for Invited Pre-1955 Sports Cars. With the maximum number of entries increased for this year, the organisers are expecting a full and varied field to entertain spectators who will be able to watch from a new viewing area alongside the track.

Amongst the entrants for the Speed Trials competition, John Dennis will be entering his 1916 Packard Twin-Six, a model which celebrates its centenary this year. Brooklands regular Julian Grimwade – 3rd Overall at last year’s Double Twelve – will be in his 1934 Fraser Nash while 2014’s Fastest Vintage and Lady Driver, Sue Darbyshire, will be there in her 1929 Morgan Super Aero. Of special note is a 1907/16 Wolseley Wolsit Coppa Florio entering the Edwardian Class, seen at previous Double Twelve meetings and owned by Kenneth Pritchard-Jones and, bringing his famous VSCC Vintage Special, the 1925 AC/GN ‘Cognac’, will be Tony Lees. Entering the Speed Trials competition for the first time will be Double Twelve regular entrant Colin Reynolds in his 1930 MG ‘M’ Type.

The Concours and Driving Tests entrants are shaping up well too with a flurry of interest covering the 1930s and ’60s. Highlights include 2013 Double Twelve Overall Champion David Bracey’s 1935 Aston Martin Mk II along with 2013 Runner-Up Mark Garfitt’s 1937 Frazer Nash/BMW 319/55 Sports with its Brooklands period history. From the Post-war era, Kate Horne’s 1966 Sunbeam Alpine Mk 5 will be up against Edward Fitzpatrick’s 1962 Jaguar Mk II amongst others.

Spaces are also available for the Anniversary Classes which this year include an homage to the MGA - 60 years of the start of a new line, the '55 Chevy -  the start of the 'small block' revolution and the Ford Escort Mexico Mk 1, which is celebrating its 45th Anniversary this year. Elsewhere, Model T Fords will be making their presence felt, with their own Class.

In addition to the competitive events, the Test Hill Challenge will be running on both days of the Festival, providing much entertainment as it invites practically anything capable of motion to reach the summit of that most famous peak. 2CV Adventures will be bringing their Tin Snail Challenge to the event for the first time, allowing visitors to have a go at a driving test with a difference, behind the wheel of a Citroen Deux Chevaux, and the weekend will culminate in the prize-giving ceremony in the main Paddock on the Sunday.
