VSCC Triallists take to the hills once more this weekend in Herefordshire!
Friday 13 March 2015
Only a week after our successful John Harris Trial in Derbyshire, the Club’s intrepid Competitors head westward for the next round of the season, the Herefordshire Trial, based at How Caple Court near Ross-on-Wye this weekend, 14/15 March.
This year’s visit to the wonderful Wye Valley for Mark Garfitt and team’s annual event has attracted an absolute capacity entry of 110 Pre-war cars for another weekend of Vintage motorsport, starting lunchtime on Saturday through to a mid-afternoon finish on Sunday. The long-established Supper Party on the Saturday night at the Concert Barn should also prove a real social highlight, where participating Competitors and Marshals will gather for a hearty meal and the announcement of the all-important halftime scores.
The event is also a favourite for Spectators, who again will be most welcome to come and watch the action at some of the sections over the two days. Saturday Hills will be open 12.00-5.30pm whilst Sunday runs 8.45am-2.30pm. Our Trials have provided some exciting competition across all classes so far this season and we anticipate more of the same as we embark on our third round of 2015 this weekend.
At the top of the Short Wheelbase classes, expect to see the Golightly and Skelton teams lock horns again in the Ford Model T and Austin 7 respectively, currently standing at one victory a-piece, whilst reigning Champion, Matt Johnston will no doubt be hot on their heels in his Austin. Amongst the Standard Cars, David Rushton will hope to continue his strong start to the campaign with another piece of silverware.
Reigning Long Wheelbase Champion, Paul Jeavons returned his Vauxhall 30-98 to the top of the scoreboard last time out and will likely contest for victory again. He is joined in an increasingly competitive Modified and Special Class by a welcome band of Vintage Bentleys, including Gareth Graham’s 1925 3/4½ Litre, a winner at our Welsh Trial last October. The Standard cars entry is again dominated by the Ford Model A, with Dennis Bingham expected to perform well again in his example; the 1930 La Licorne 8 CV of John Fenton, meanwhile, adds a little Gallic flair to proceedings.
We wish Mark Garfitt and his team, and all those Competitors, Marshals and other officials taking part another wonderful VSCC weekend.
