The VSCC Welsh Speed Weekend is coming to Pembrey
Friday 27 June 2014
The Vintage Sports-Car Club are delighted to be returning to Pembrey for a fifth consecutive year for our Welsh Speed Weekend, comprising again three exciting elements for Pre-war and Historic Racing and Sports-Cars over this weekend, the 28/29 June - Sprint and Team Relay Race (Saturday) and Race Meeting (Sunday).
Saturday’s first activity will be our Sprint, now firmly established as part of the Club’s Speed calendar. The event will boast the Club’s usual full complement of Pre-war classes for Racing & Sports-Cars, whilst we will also welcome invited entries from popular Post-war machinery, so expect to see some examples of F3 (500) and 1950s Sports Racing Cars amongst familiar Pre-war marques such as Frazer Nash, Riley, Alvis, Morgan and more. Each competitor will receive two practice runs in the morning and two competitive runs after Lunch Break. Comprising approx 75% of the complete circuit, the 1859 yard course is a great test for all levels of experience and will be a great chance for our racers to familiarise themselves with the track before the Racing commences.
Following the conclusion of the Sprint on Saturday will be the Club’s ever-popular Team Relay Race for Pre-war Sports-Cars. Teams will consist of three drivers and will last 90 minutes starting at approximately 4.15pm after convoy practice runs for all participants. Inter-marque rivalry is fierce as the nominated Team Captains devise their tactics and with the camaraderie and excitement in the paddock, the event is truly unique and one of the highlights of the Club’s Racing Season.
Sunday’s track action will comprise some of the Club’s most historic trophies as our Hawthorn Memorial Trophies Race Meeting takes centre stage, including a stellar line-up of races for Pre-war and Historic machinery to honour the memory of the racing great, Mike Hawthorn. The day’s programme includes the Hawthorn Memorial & Spanish Trophies for Pre-1961 front-engined Racing Cars and the Bill Phillips and Hawthorn Brighton Trophies for Pre-war Sports-Cars. We also host our prestigious Hawthorn International Trophy for 1950s Sports Racing Cars and welcome the 500 Owners Association for another round for their popular F3 (500) Racing Cars. And to complement the day’s vintage proceedings, we are delighted to welcome the local competitors of the Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship for two rounds of their 2014 season.
Beyond the track action, we look forward to the traditional warm welcome, with the circuit’s local marshals always turning out in force to support the Club and see our wonderful machinery in action. The Circuit’s ‘Formula 1 Bar’ will be serving hot and cold food over both days so please come and join us for a fun-filled weekend of Club Motorsport and frivolity as only the VSCC can offer!
