A Round-Up of the New Year Driving Tests

Sunday the 26th January marked the day of the VSCC’s annual New Year Driving Tests held at Brooklands museum. As the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, Brooklands provides the perfect backdrop for a specular day of tests and as this is the opening event of the year and thus counted towards the Tony Jones Trophy, it brought out both experienced regular drivers and some new faces as well as driving tests provide the perfect entry into vintage motorsport. For many this date is a highlight on their calendar.

The day started off dry, drivers took their cars to scrutineering and got the go-ahead to compete. The event comprised of 6 tests in the morning and 6 tests in the afternoon. These tests comprised of the usual starting and stopping, reversing & parking a ‘garage bays’. The added benefits of the driving tests at Brooklands is that drivers get to attempt driving up the infamous test hill and also get to complete a test on the banked circuit where British motor racing began.

Unfortunately, as you can imagine in the UK in January after the morning sessions, the weather took a slight turn for the worse. Fortunately however this did not dampen the spirits of the competitors even though their cars and clothes may have said otherwise although did mean that the test hill and banked circuit were out of bounds as they got far too slippy.

The final results are coming soon...
