Welsh Weekend 13/14 October
Wednesday 10 October 2018
Join us at Presteigne
The quiet roads and superb scenery give an ideal location for the Club's annual Welsh Weekend. Nestled on the Welsh Borders this important two day event in the VSCC Trials calendar is returning to the town of Presteigne, which always welcomes the Club so warmly.
A capacity entry of 105 Vintage cars will be reporting to a new headquarters this year at B W Roberts Garage with hospitality provided across the road at the Royal Oak.
Competitors will then tackle six hills in the surrounding area including the famous ‘Smatcher’ – first used by the Club in the original 1939 event - and ‘Badlands’ introduced in 2015, before returning to Presteigne for the traditional social gathering on the busy High Street. A further six sections follow on Sunday morning before competitors head to Cwm Whitton Farm for the three final hills in the afternoon.
As well as the Trial over the weekend, on Saturday a Scatter Rally will be held to provide navigation and observation challenges for nearly 30 rally competitors in their Pre-war cars. As a Scatter event, there will be no set route, nor any timing beyond the need to finish by a set time. Entrants will plot their own route to visit a number of clue points, the whereabouts of which will be deduced from traditional grid references and spot heights.
The Rally Revival encourages three classes; Championship Class, Clubman Class and Champagne Class, the latter sees crews benefitting from much fuller route instructions. Based at Presteigne's Scout Hut, the event will be finished by 4pm when competitors will have the opportunity to join in with the social gathering in Presteigne.
Although not traditionally a spectators sport, we welcome the public to come and watch the Trial at ‘Smatcher’ and ‘Badlands’, both will be open from 12:00pm until 5:15pm on Saturday and then on Sunday at Cwm Whitton which will be open 12:30pm – 4:00pm. Toilets and refreshments will be available at Badlands and Cwm Whitton. Detailed spectator information can be found here
