Class Records Tumble at the last Speed Event of the Season
The Vintage Sports-Car Club made their second trip this year to the picturesque Prescott estate in Gotherington on Saturday 29 September for their final Round of this year’s Speed Championship, which was the Prescott Long Course Hill Climb.

A glorious autumnal day greeted a maximum entry of almost 150 Pre-war cars as they competed for the final time this season on a favourably dry course.  The results reflected this with James Baxter taking the Fastest Time of the Day in David Hawkins’ 1935 Riley ERA, and in so doing smashing the overall VSCC Course Record, previously held by Nick Topliss, with an astounding time of 48.70 seconds.  James was eagerly cheered on by friends and family.  James Crabb achieved 51.59 seconds to win the Fastest Young Driver in his fathers 1937 ERA R12C who he was sharing a drive. Also, Sue Darbyshire gained Fastest Vintage in her 1929 Morgan Super Aero with a time of 56.22 seconds.

General Class records tumbled in Class 5, 6 and 7 respectively with Marina Pemberton-Whiteley’s 64.97 seconds run in her fathers 1935 Talbot 95/105, Mark Brett’s 56.06 seconds run in his 1937 Ballamy-Ford and James Collins’ 61.34 seconds in his 1917 Hudson Super Six.

A fantastic end to what has been a successful Speed Season for the VSCC. Speed Championship results will be announced in the coming weeks and the provisional calendar for 2019 will be revealed later this week so competitors can save the dates to do it all again next year.  In the interim, we wish to thank all of the Officials, Marshals and Volunteers who help to make this all possible.
