Get Set to Sprint at Curborough

Monday 30 April 2018

We’re all set for a great day of Sprinting, featuring a fantastic line-up of Vintage machinery!
Last year we saw Tom Walker win Fastest Time of the Day, earning the first trophy of the championship, the Curborough Trophy. Julian Grimwade followed closely behind Walker, with his 1934 Frazer Nash Single Seat. Both Grimwade and his Frazer Nash are once again set to compete at this year’s event pushing for the Fastest Time of the Day.

Tony Lees made Fastest Vintage of the day last year, with his 1925 AC/GN Cognac. He’ll be returning to the course this May in Class 15, joined by Chris Hudson’s speedy T35B Bugatti and Tony Lees’ AC/GN Cognac amongst others.

Another active VSCC Member and sponsor, Dougal Cawley of Longstone Tyres will be competing at Curborough with his 1929 GN Ford Piglet in Class 11, alongside not one but two 1930 Frazer Nash Super Sports.

The Edwardian class promises a spectacle to all picnickers and spectators at Curborough, with eight Edwardians taking to the track this year, including Club President Geoff Smith and his 1918 Piccard-Pictet.

Amongst several of the Club’s Frazer Nash drivers will be mother-son duo Jo Blakeney-Edwards and Tom Waterfield, double driving the 1929 Frazer Nash Super Sports.

We’ll also see father-daughter duo David Furnell and Claire Furnell-Williams compete in the nippy Austin 7 “The Toy”. Speed Champion of the 2017 season and the Chair of the Speed Sub-Committee, Furnell will once again make several appearances in “The Toy” this year – alongside many other excellent competitors we look forward to seeing at Curborough!
