Champagne Rally Extended Entry to Pre-1961 Cars
Wednesday 04 April 2018
As part of this year’s Rally Revival, the VSCC have opened entries to pre-1961 cars for the inaugural Champagne Rally taking place in Stow-on-the-Wold on 28-29 April.
As Rallies are often seen as an over-complicated discipline, the VSCC will be hosting a Champagne Rally weekend to encourage Club Members to learn the Rallying ropes, and have a go at the sociable discipline.
Entries are now open to pre-1961 cars to ensure that more people have access to the exciting and educational weekend.
Featuring a Rally Teach-In with expert drivers, navigators, and a scrutineer; a non-competitive Rally; and an easy-going Navigational Rally once you’ve learned the basics, the weekend is set to be a Must-Do for any budding Rallyist.

In addition to the novice-oriented Champagne Rally, the VSCC have also changed the Rally class structure to welcome more novices to the discipline. Within the new class structure there is NO promotion or relegation and competitors can enter whichever class they choose.
There will also be a Junior Navigator Award, for the winning navigator under 21, in each Rally and an annual Junior Navigator Trophy presented at the end of the season.
CHAMPAGNE CLASS
Open to any Pre-war car (Buff Forms not necessary).
This would be an ideal class for beginners, novices or those who just want a more relaxing Rally.
Instructions will take the form of a straight-forward ‘Roadbook’ style with simple instructions e.g. "3.7 miles Turn Left at T junction into Smithy Lane Signpost Chipping". Instructions will be accompanied by Tulip diagrams of junctions and sections of marked up OS maps. Hints will be given with timing. These instructions are designed to allow complete beginners to get round the route keeping to a reasonable time schedule. Competitors will receive their instructions 45 minutes before their start time. We can virtually guarantee you will not get lost!

The event winner cannot come from this class. The winning driver and navigator will each receive a bottle of Champagne.
CLUBMAN CLASS
Open to any Pre-war car (Buff Forms not necessary).
This class could be seen as a step-up from the Champagne Class, an entry level class for those who like map reading or again for those who want a more relaxing rally.
Instructions will be by the most straight-forward rally conventions (e.g. map features, spot heights and tulips) which competitors plot onto an OS map. There will be NO complex rally instructions. Hints will be given with timing. Competitors in this class will receive their instructions 30 minutes before their start time.
The event winner cannot come from this class. The winning driver and navigator will also each receive a bottle of wine.
TROPHY CLASS
To enter this class your car MUST have a Buff Form.
Instructions may include any usual rally conventions (as appear in ‘Finding Your Way’). Instructions will be available 15 minutes before you start. The event winners may only come from this class. Awards and trophies will be awarded in the usual way.
