Cornish Tour
21 May 2023
Helston, Cornwall
The Cornish Tour will start from Higher Boden Farm on the
outskirts of Manaccan on east Lizard. This is within the AONB in this part of
Cornwall.
The first part of the route is in the quiet lanes which wind past the cob and
thatched buildings typical of this side of the county. The drive rises to the
highest point on the Lizard with spectacular views across Falmouth Bay before
winding down to cross the creeks of the south side of the Helford River.
From here we run across the south coast to Marazion and St Michael’s Mount, before heading across towards Land’s End, travelling on from there on the
Atlantic road. Here is rugged, wild, granite Cornwall, where the road winds
through moorland with far reaching views of the Atlantic.
Below Zennor a turn takes us back on our return journey across moorland and
down around Penzance before heading back over to Helford village where we will
end at the Helford River Sailing Club and its lovely outlook across the
Helford. The total distance is 79 miles.
There will be secure parking for trailers if needed, and up to 20 vintage cars can be parked in a secure compound alongside the house also if needed.
This area of Cornwall is well provided with accommodation. There is a
property alongside the start venue, with no connection to the organiser but is to a good
standard. The Barn at Higher Boden can accommodate a large group. For those that wish to camp, there is a site at Gear Farm which is nearby and
which also makes the best pasty in the county.
