Scottish Weekend
24 Jun 2023 - 25 Jun 2023
St Boswells, Melrose
The annual Scottish Weekend is now in its tenth year and will take place over the weekend of Friday/Saturday & Sunday, 23 to 25 June, based on the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in St Boswells, near Melrose. The hotel is now fully booked with Members so hopefully we will have a good entry in this celebration year.
The event starts with an informal BBQ on the Friday night at Braeside House in Selkirk, food and soft drinks will be provided, but BYO alcohol if you want anything stronger!
On the following day the Tour will comprise around 95 miles of strenuous roads through the Lammermeur Hills, which are widely recognised as some of the most beautiful and inspirational landscape in the Southern Uplands. The route has been carefully checked by Alastair Gunn, and entrants are well advised to bring spare supplies of fuel and water, and to have their cars brakes in first rate order! There are a number of viewpoints for a lunchtime picnic stop.
In the early evening we will be joined again by Dr Nina Baker, who will continue her series of talks on inspirational women in engineering during the vintage era and the evening will continue thereafter with our annual VSCC Dinner, with an exciting menu drawn up for us by the proprietor of the Buccleuch Arms Hotel. The dinner is open to all Members and their partners: those competing with their crews, locally based Members and the organising team. A good evening is to be had by all.
On Sunday morning, there will be a Scatter Rally starting at 10.00 am, run in the capable hands of Martin Jelley and his father. This year, there is a VSCC trophy for the best performance in the Scatter Rally. This cup was originally designated for competition at the Scottish Driving Tests, but as the Scatter Rally has replaced the Driving Tests, an executive decision has been taken to re-allocate the cup to the Scatter Rally.
Entries are now open.
