Club Stalwart’s “Swansong” at the VSCC Winter Driving Tests tomorrow

The Club's final event of 2013, the Winter Driving Tests, take place at St George’s Barracks, Bicester tomorrow Saturday 7 December. The day marks a significant milestone in this much-loved event’s history as it will be the final time that long-standing organiser Malcolm Elder will act as Clerk of the Course. After 36 years and five different venues across the region, Malcolm will be handing the reins over to his son Mark following this year’s Driving Tests, aptly entitled “Swansong”.

Date confirmed for the 2014 Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival – 14/15 June

Brooklands Museum and the Vintage Sports-Car Club have confirmed preliminary details of the Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival for 2014. In true Brooklands tradition, it will be held on the weekend closest to the date the original track opened in 1907, which next year is Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June. The two-day event will feature Speed Trials, ascents, Driving Tests and the prestigious Double Twelve Concours across the Museum site and at the neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World, giving spectators and competitors a huge variety of motoring action.

Members are reminded that the Club's final event of 2013, the Winter Driving Tests, take place at St George’s Barracks, Bicester this Saturday 7 December. The year’s traditional curtain-closer is the last chance for competitors to accrue those all-important points towards the Club’s many Annual Aggregate Trophies as well as their final opportunity to compete in earnest with the Club this year.

We still require a number of Marshals to help run the twelve Driving Tests at our upcoming Winter Driving Tests event, to be held on Saturday 7 December once again at St George’s Barracks, near Bicester.
Club Members are welcome to come and spectate, attend the Club’s Race & Speed Forum and have their annual MSA Medical; why not offer to marshal too?

The final Vintage Sports-Car Club Trial of 2013, the Cotswold Trial, takes place tomorrow Saturday 23 November, with Event HQ again based at Prescott Hill Climb. A full entry of 110 Pre-war Cars will descend on the Gloucestershire countryside to tackle a total of 12 sections in the vicinity, with the final four of which situated in the grounds of the famous Hill Climb venue itself. There, we anticipate a bumper crowd of spectators to come and watch our members in action as the day’s competition comes to a conclusion and the final standings are decided.

Lakeland Trial Provisional Results

The annual VSCC Lakeland Trial was held on Saturday in testing conditions as the first of the winter snow fell on the Northern Lakes. Snow and hail storms battered the Bassenthwaite area near Keswick as half of the 100 entrants arrived for morning scrutineering but the valiant marshals officiating the six hills in the forest kept the show on the road, and spirits amongst the competitors high as they tackled some thrilling sections.

Bonhams offer car lovers a treat at their Harrogate sale on Wednesday 13 November listing cars with fascinating histories and celebrity former owners. The 1949 ex-Jim Bergerac convertible Triumph Roadster 2000 from the BBC TV Series of the same name, registration no. 1610 J, is estimated to sell for £25,000-30,000.
